This could mean preserving original character while renewing the materials, strengthening the overall structure, and fitting a new top fabric.
Those family heirlooms requiring careful restoration, or even conservation, we take a closer look at the condition. Then, based on traditional techniques of the period provide a valuation of the best way forward.
The Sustainability Revolution
First, our mission to revive unwanted furniture, we source discarded antique chairs across Hampshire. We repair frames, reupholster with quality fabrics, and offer them ready to buy as characterful, sustainable alternatives to mass-produced furniture.
Second, with the current UK Government review of fire regulations for soft furnishings and furniture, we are exploring how alternative materials based on natural resources can be used.
The third part of or sustainable practice is to explore how we can become a B-Corp and contribute to the circular economy

About Strong Upholstery
Based in Hampshire, Strong Upholstery is run by Nicola Strong. Nicola spent three years completing her diploma in Modern and Traditional Upholstery at the British School of Upholstered Furniture learning all aspects of the craft. She is now part of the Continuing Professional Development group at the Chair School run by Master Upholsterer Greg Cupitt-Jones and Charlotte Ellis-Brown.
The Strong Upholstery mission is to honour craftsmanship that employs traditional and conservation techniques while appreciating the benefits of modern sustainable upholstery practices. The results are bold designs that infuse new life into your furnishings.
Strong Upholstery is actively researching sustainable materials that also comply with the current UK Government fire regulations and guidance by The Furniture Industry Research Association
Strong Upholstery
